Overview

Landscaping done properly

Landscaping is the full transformation of an outdoor space: the layout, the levels, the hard surfaces, the boundaries and the planting, all working together. It's what turns a garden you look at into a garden you live in.

We handle full garden design and planting design, or we can work from your own ideas and give honest advice on what will work on your plot. Because the same team designs and builds, nothing gets lost between the drawing and the finished garden.

Our speciality is the gardens other landscapers find awkward: steep slopes, coastal plots exposed to salt air and wind, and old gardens with crumbling walls and poor drainage. One customer's hillside garden needed four sets of walls, new patios and decks plus drainage work; the concepts and planning were all ours.

Who it's for

  • Homeowners with a sloping or terraced garden that's hard to use
  • Coastal properties that need structures built to cope with wind
  • New-build gardens that are a blank, muddy canvas
  • Holiday lets and second homes that need to look their best
  • Anyone with a neglected garden that needs a complete rethink
What happens if it's left

The cost of getting it wrong

Unusable slopes stay unusable

Without terracing and retaining walls, a sloping garden stays a slope, hard to walk on, impossible to sit on, and prone to soil creeping downhill.

Water goes where it wants

Poor levels and no drainage plan mean puddled lawns, damp patios and water running towards the house.

Piecemeal work costs more

Adding a patio one year and a fence the next, without a plan, often means ripping out earlier work to fix levels or access.

Weather wins on the coast

Lightweight structures and the wrong plants simply don't last in an exposed Cornish garden.

Common mistakes we see

  • Starting with the patio before sorting levels and drainage
  • Choosing materials and plants that look good in a catalogue but won't survive coastal wind
  • Hiring several different trades who don't coordinate with each other

  3. 03

    Groundwork

Clearing, digging out, levelling and drainage. Getting this right is what makes the finished work last.

  4. 04

    Build & finish

The work itself, done by Harry and the team.

  5. 05

    Handover & warranty

We walk you through the finished job. Your written contract and warranty (typically 2 years) are yours to keep.

In detail

Landscaping explained

“The garden is on the side of steep hill and required four sets of walls to be built, new patios and decks plus additional plumbing to sort drainage out. The results are breathtaking and the concepts and planning were all their own.”

Hard and soft landscaping together

Hard landscaping is the structure: patios, paths, walls, steps, decking, fencing and driveways. Soft landscaping is the living layer: lawns, beds, shrubs and hedges. A good garden balances both; we deliver the structure that lasts and the planting that brings it to life, including moving established trees, shrubs and hedges where a new layout needs it.

Landscaping sloping gardens

Slopes are the most common reason people call us. Depending on the gradient, we might create a series of terraces held by retaining walls, add steps to link levels, or build a deck that projects out from the high ground. Every option needs a proper drainage plan, because water flows downhill and builds pressure behind walls.

Coastal garden landscaping

Gardens near the Cornish coast face salt-laden wind that damages flimsy fences, scorches the wrong plants and loosens poorly fixed structures. We specify sturdier fencing, solid fixings and planting suited to exposure, and we've completed multiple phases of work on very steep coastline gardens.

Working from your ideas

Some customers arrive with a clear picture; others just know what they don't like. Either is fine. We can produce a full garden and planting design, or take your sketch and advise on what's practical: levels, access, materials and how the space will feel to use.

Planning guide

Planning your landscaping project

Start with how you'll use the space

Before choosing materials, think about who will use the garden and when. A space for summer dining needs different sizing, shelter and access from a low-maintenance front garden or a holiday let that needs to look smart between guests. Tell us how you live and we'll shape the landscaping around it.

Look honestly at the ground

Slope, soil, existing walls, hedges and drainage all affect what's possible and what it costs. In Cornwall, many gardens are steep, rocky or exposed to the coast. We assess all of this on our first visit so your quote reflects the real job: not a best-case guess that changes once work starts.

Think about the whole garden

Landscaping rarely sits in isolation. It meets lawns, beds, boundaries, paths and steps. Planning these together avoids the cost of reworking levels or access later, and gives you a garden that feels designed rather than added to piece by piece.
